The design was inspired by the sophistication and masculinity of classic vintage cars. The designers incorporated elements from an era that celebrated industrial innovation, such as exposed bricks, concrete, and heavy usage of metals. With a modern twist and a minimalist touch, the space is both comfortable and hip, attracting car enthusiasts of all ages.
The unique properties of the design are evident in the large, black-coated mild steel arches that imitate the windows of old industrial warehouses. These arches, combined with PVC leather seating, are placed at the cafe shop front. The design features are tall, drawing attention both horizontally and vertically, respecting the double volume high ceiling of the space.
The design was realized through meticulous space planning, research, and brainstorming. The team used CAD programs to draft precise layout plans and 3D programs to visualize their ideas. The result is a space that serves dual purposes without blocking off the spatial relationship of the two connecting businesses.
The 1500sqft semi-detached industrial building houses a car showroom at the front and office space behind, with an area of 1100sqft for the cafe at the corner of the shopfront. The building's facade features tall glass windows, and there is a big sliding glass door for cars to enter, with two smaller entrances for customers.
The design encourages interaction between the two businesses. The cafe runs independently but also serves as a waiting area for the customers at the Car Detailing Shop. The open layout invites consumers on both sides of the businesses to intermingle, driving business to both the autocare shop and the cafe.
The project, located at Lot PT 60458, Kawasaki Perusahaan Sungai Lalang, 08000 Sungai Petani, Malaysia, began in October 2019 and was completed in July 2020. The design team overcame challenges such as understanding the two business models and planning a cohesive layout that benefits both. They successfully merged the car shop owner's preference for vintage and industrial looks with the cafe's minimalist style.
The Industrial Dynamic project is a testament to Chaos Design Studio's ability to create innovative, functional, and aesthetically pleasing designs. It is a unique space that successfully merges two distinct businesses and design styles, creating a dynamic and engaging environment for customers.
